Doesn’t Anybody Proofread These Things?

I was watching TV the other day, and a commercial for State Farm Insurance came on. It was pretty standard stuff overall, until a shot toward the end where the spokesman is standing in front of a magazine rack. All of the magazines had been mocked up because State Farm didn’t want to be seen as endorsing any particular titles, which is perfectly understandable.

What blows my mind, though, is one of the magazine titles. See if you can find the one I mean:

State Farm TV ad

I know they were going for a play on words, but changing “Gung-ho” to “GUN*HO” probably wasn’t such a hot idea. I’m sure gun-totin’ women deserve their own magazine, but is the ad agency that created this commercial so out of touch with modern slang that they don’t know what a ho is? Focus groups, people, focus groups!
